The tube voltage determines the energy of the X-rays generated, while the tube current controls the amount of X-rays generated per unit time. Exposure time determines the duration of X-rays directed at the object being analyzed.

Some security X-ray machines use dual-energy X-ray imaging technology, which uses two X-ray tubes with different energy levels. One tube produces low-energy X-rays, while the other produces high-energy X-rays. The resulting image displays different colors that indicate the density and atomic number of each object in the scanned image. The technology allows operators to differentiate between organic and inorganic materials, enhancing the detection of hidden objects.
